Time Warner iPad App vs. the Cable Companies – Round Two

by Katie Essner on April 1, 2011

In lieu of yesterday’s blog on the battle between Time Warner Cable and the cable companies, I’d like to share an email from Time Warner. Select providers, Fox, Discovery and Viacom specifically, are being removed from the iPad app, effective immediately.

So the question becomes, will this email have any effect on the decision made by the cable companies? Time Warner seems prepared to fight, with this quote showing their dedication to making the app openly available:

“For the time being, we have decided to focus our iPad efforts on other enlightened programmers who understand the benefit and importance of allowing our subscribers – and their viewers – to watch their programming on any screen in their homes.”

Despite the dropouts, Time Warner says it will provide replacement channels for iPad users. They’re sending the message loud and clear: This is the way of the future, and if you don’t get on board, someone else will.

What do you think is the next step? Let us know in the comment section.
